Quick answer
Hydro jetting in Sydney typically costs $350–$650 for residential drainage and includes a CCTV inspection. High-pressure water cleans the inside of the pipe (up to 5000 psi), removing grease, sludge, sediment and root buildup rather than simply creating a passage through the blockage.
While the classic electric eel drills holes in blockages, hydro jetting service involves cleaning the whole inner surface of the pipe by removing tree roots, grease and sludge from the pipe system.

Signs Your Drain Needs Hydro Jetting
Hydro jetting is useful when a drain is repeatedly facing blockages or when buildup has become too heavy for conventional drain-clearing methods.
You should see:
Recurring clogs due to roots, grease, and silt
Buildup of grease in the kitchen drain
Soap scum and mineral buildup in bathroom and laundry drains
Difficult clogs that recur after simple clearing
Slow drain that is still clogged even after the use of eels

How we sort it: Hydro Jetting Process, Step by Step
Step 1
Inspect the pipe
The process starts with checking the available access point. We use a camera to check the condition of the pipe before subjecting it to high-pressure water.
Step 2
Jet the line
The nozzle sends water up to 5000 psi into the drain, with the rear-facing jets pushing the nozzle forward as the water breaks up and sweeps the debris through the system.
What Is Hydro Jetting and How Does It Work?
Hydro jetting, which is also referred to as jet blasting, involves using a powerful stream of water to clean the interior of pipes. A specialised nozzle directs water jets backwards and forwards inside the line. The rear-facing jets help move the hose through the pipe and scour the pipe walls, while forward-facing action helps break up suitable blockages and deposits.
The pressure depends on the pipe condition, with around 1,500 psi sometimes used for smaller lines and higher pressures, potentially up to around 5,000 psi, used for suitable main sewer and stormwater lines. The correct pressure is determined by the pipe, access and type of material being removed rather than simply using the highest pressure available.
Unlike a cable that may create a passage through the middle of a blockage, hydro jetting is designed to clean more of the pipe wall. Grease, sludge, sediment and suitable root growth can be loosened and flushed from the line. This makes sure the drain doesn’t face blockages for at least two years.

High-pressure water jetting scours the full pipe wall rather than punching a hole through the blockage.
Hydro Jetting vs Drain Snakes and Electric Eels
A drain snake or electric eel is a cable with a cutting end. While this method is effective for removing foreign materials or certain solid blockages, it can create a channel through the blockage while leaving material like grease or roots attached to the inner wall of the pipe. A simple soft blockage, certain foreign objects or a restriction close to a fixture may be better suited to cable clearing.
Hydro jetting removes more of that buildup rather than simply creating a path through it. It is particularly useful for kitchen pipes coated with grease, bathroom pipes affected by hair and soap, stormwater pipes containing silt, or sewer lines with fine root growth.
We carry both the equipments for drain blockage and use it after assessing the situation. The right method depends on what is actually causing the blockage and the condition of the pipe.

Is Hydro Jetting Safe for Old Pipes?
Yes, hydro jetting can be used on older drainage systems when the equipment and pressure are suitable for the condition of the pipe. It is commonly used on old clay, terracotta, cast iron and PVC pipes in Sydney. Many homeowners prefer jetting as it doesn’t involve excavation or disruption. It can remove the blockage through the access point and also doesn’t involve chemicals that may damage the pipe.
The important point is to assess the pipe rather than assume it can withstand any pressure. A damaged or collapsed pipe may not be suitable for high-pressure cleaning. If an inspection shows that the pipe wall is badly damaged, unstable or collapsed, repairing the underlying problem is more appropriate than continuing to clean the line.
For older Sydney homes, this is why a CCTV inspection can be valuable before or after jetting.
Hydro Jetting Costs in Sydney: What’s Included
The prices for our residential hydro jetting service in Sydney are between $350 and $650 and include both the jetting and a camera inspection after the service has been carried out. The price can vary depending on the type of pipe, access, length of the line and type of blockage. We charge a $0 call-out fee in our six service areas.
Most residential hydro jetting jobs take around one to two hours, although the actual time depends on access, the extent of the blockage and the amount of cleaning required.
In the case of commercial properties or complex systems, special equipment and extra time might be needed. Where hydro jetting forms part of another drain service, it is included in the quoted service price rather than charged as a separate fee.
Short internal lines and grease buildup are generally at the lower end of the range, whereas longer sewer or stormwater lines requiring specialised equipment or root-cutting may be at the higher end. You might come across jet blasting advertisements in Sydney that start from $139. Most of the time, it doesn’t include call-out charges or camera inspection charges, which are added later.

Why is jetting the cost-effective solution for tough blockages?
Jetting costs more than a cable, but it can cost less over time because it removes grease, scale and fine roots from the full pipe wall rather than simply punching through the blockage. It doesn’t just focus on the blockage. But it cleans the pipes thoroughly, leaving no scope for further blockages or water build-up. Though there is no fixed time period, it can usually keep blockages caused by grease for a year or two. Stormwater silt may last a season. Roots will return if the underlying crack remains, which is why camera inspection and targeted relining matter.
Chemical cleaners are rarely a cost-effective fix. They may not reach the blockage and can damage older pipes. Blockages might come back within six months. Snaking still works well for minor hair or soap clogs in a single trap.
Though hydro-jetting can be expensive, it is a sustainable solution as it prevents recurring blockages and expensive repairs. We offer reliable services that suit the condition of the pipe.

How a Jetting Job Runs
To access the overflow relief gully or inspection opening, a camera is used whenever the condition of the pipe is uncertain. The correct nozzle is chosen according to the type of blockage. The hydro unit then feeds the hose into the pipe, cleaning the entire inner wall as the debris is flushed out to the main sewer or stormwater outlet. The pipe is finally checked with a camera to ensure it is clean. This non-invasive method takes about two hours to complete.
Hydro Jetting as Preventative Maintenance
Preventative jetting can make sense for properties with a known history of recurring buildup; for example, houses situated around older sewer lines with mature trees may suffer from repeated root growth, and kitchens that have a heavy grease load can also have regular buildup.
Jet cleaning removes the buildup before it leads to serious blockages. It is also effective in commercial kitchens and in properties which have high drainage requirements since blockages can disrupt operations. It can save you from emergency call-outs and expensive repairs.

Hydro Jetting for Older Sydney Homes
Older Sydney homes can have drainage systems exposed to decades of ground movement, root growth, corrosion, wear and previous repairs.
Hydro jetting can be used on clay and PVC, but it is important to check the quality of the pipes first. For ongoing root intrusion, it is usually more cost-effective to combine jetting with a CCTV inspection taken every 12 to 18 months to avoid repeated emergency visits and the need for pipe relining.
